Sudden Bursts/Normal Breaths is a double album of songs and instrumentals, the majority of which grew out of studio improvisations. The tracks on this collection are a selection of recordings from 2008-2011. In comparison with Nows previous albums, Sudden Bursts/Normal Breaths features both more upbeat at times joyfully silly and dark, melancholy tunes, which reflect the varied character of their on-stage improvisations. It was made just as a trio with few guest players, and it is the first album that includes deliberate takes on other genres from dance music to minimalism.
Since their foundation in 1998, NOW have released seven albums, contributed exclusive tracks to many compilations and collaborated with underground musicians such as Damo Suzuki (leading to the release of the joint album The London Evening News), Charles Hayward and The Go! Teams' Kaori Tsuchida. Having played inside and outside the UK, including a Japan tour in 2009, they have also attracted support slots with bands such as Faust, Circle, Tunng, Psapp, Rothko, Plaid and A Hawk And A Hacksaw, and, in February 2009, The Stooges' Mike Watt dedicated an entire radio show to their music. Live, NOW move between melodic songs and energetic improvisation. NOW could be described as catchy, contemporary, inventive, exotic, melodious, harmonious and disharmonious 21st century pop music.

* About the record; On a Philosophical note
For the past 15 almost 20 years, (as many indie-ish musicians) i've thought it is uncool to make covers, to even *gasp* play other peoples music. I dunno, i'm a bit of a fanatic, once i get an idea in my head. maybe its a good thing i'm not religious.
Well, one day recently i decided it would be a good challenge, a way to stretch my mind... on a practical level, because it is something i have no experience with with, but also mentally to challenge my ideas about whats okay in music, well the music i'm doing anyhow.
To close, i want to say how much i have enjoyed in learning from and studying the nuances of these peoples work. Helping me to see music in new ways i never would have thought of. Also, this they say is the sincerest way of flattering people (mimicry). Though my intentions are not that, but only to study, live, to love, and share music.
thanks

Roots Manuva - 4everevolution (2011)
Nearing his 40th birthday, Rodney Smith a.k.a Roots Manuva has delivered a contemplative and insightful album. Skid Valley, a sketch of life outside the bubble in 2011, ends with the couplet: "Low pay packets and high inflation/ And now they want to blame us for the end of the nation." Wha' Mek domesticises this insecurity: "What makes you sigh ... When I'm trying my hardest, it's the best that I can be." Even club banger Get the Get ends with an exasperated: "I am somebody." There's an impressive range of styles here an overdose of maudlin strings, perhaps, but there would at least appear to be a reason for that.
This has been written by ME!
